Lower Finals:

MLK vs LOZ | Wednesday, August 26, 3:30pm SGT

The Lower Final is set, and it will feature a clash between the tournament’s two #1 seeds from group stage. Legend of Zod (LOZ) and My Little Ken (MLK) both entered the playoffs as the top seed in their respective groups, but with a spot in the Grand Final on the line, only one team can keep their championship dream alive.

This is more than just another playoff matchup. It is a battle between two teams that have taken very different paths through the playoffs. LOZ looks to continue their playoff run after a dominant victory, while MLK must recover from their first defeat of the season.

LOZ enters the Lower Final with confidence after dismantling Hypergamous Foids (FOIDS) in a convincing 2-0 victory. With the win, LOZ will now look toward their preferred battlegrounds. Haven stands out as the obvious choice, with the team yet to lose a single game on the map this season (5-0). Meanwhile, their previous ban, Breeze, is no longer available, leaving their ban strategy uncertain heading into the matchup.

LOZ will once again rely heavily on its star trio of kyo, qwert, and Dorothy, all of whom currently sit inside the top 5 in playoff stats. qwert and kyo especially delivered their strongest performances of the season against FOIDS, proving that they can step up when the pressure is at its highest. Despite this, LOZ is far from a three-player team.

Ezra has continued to show flashes of potential and has demonstrated impressive flexibility, particularly on Duelist. Following Zod's departure, reserve player AddieTheIdiot will be stepping into the starting lineup, having already showed her ability to make an impact against MLK in the Upper Final, subbing in for !sens.

For MLK, the Lower Final represents unfamiliar territory.

MLK entered the playoffs with an unbeaten regular season, but that run finally came to an end in a closely contested match against !sens. The narrow defeat sent the Group A #1 seed crashing into the Lower Final, where they now face Group B’s #1 seed. MLK will need to quickly put that loss behind them.

One of the biggest factors could be the map pool. Split has been a 100% ban for MLK, meaning Sunset is likely to become an important battleground. The team has looked extremely comfortable there, winning five of their six games on the map, their only loss coming in a tight overtime battle against Bucky Outlaw Odin Bullies. If MLK can reach Sunset, they may have the perfect opportunity to reset their playoff campaign.

At the heart of MLK’s success are iongers and Boostie, and both will need to be at their best against LOZ's disciplined team play. Boostie enters the Lower Final as the best-rated player in playoff stats, continuing to show exactly why he has been regarded as one of the tournament’s premier players this season. iongers, meanwhile, has seen his playoff rating dip compared to his group-stage performances. However, his previous highs—both this season and last—have already proven that he possesses the raw aim and firepower capable of taking over a series at any moment. Behind the star duo, Jam, alody, and Ken provide the supporting firepower that makes MLK so dangerous. alody’s Neon play must be highlighted with his strong, dependable performances in recent games.

History

Beyond the playoff implications, this matchup comes with plenty of history.

qwert and iongers have faced each other before, dating back to last season in Ken's Kingdom and All Gooners, respectively. This time, however, the stakes are significantly higher.

qwert will also be facing former teammates Ken, adding another layer of personal history to an already exciting matchup.

On one side stands LOZ, a team carrying the legacy of a core that had already won it all last season. On the other stands MLK, a team that dominated the entire season before suffering their first setback at the worst possible time. One team has already proven they can reach the summit. The other has spent the season proving they can be nearly impossible to stop. Now, they meet with everything on the line.

An immovable object meets an unstoppable force. The winner advances to face !sens in the Grand Final, with the Season 12 championship waiting at the end of the road.

The lower finals between MLK and LOZ will be played this afternoon at 3:30pm SGT.
